💰 Thales Alenia Space wins €862M ESA contract for lunar lander
Thales Alenia Space has secured an €862M contract from ESA to develop the Argonaut Lunar Lander, giving Europe independent access to the Moon. Designed for versatile missions, Argonaut will deliver cargo, deploy rovers, support science experiments and aid lunar infrastructure. As part of NASA’s Artemis program, it will play a key role in long-term lunar exploration.
🚀 UK Government invests £20M in Orbex
The UK Government has committed £20 million to Orbex to aid in the development and launch of its Prime rocket later this year. This investment marks a major step in the UK’s push to support local space companies and compete in the European launcher market. Orbex is also working on a larger rocket, Proxima, though details on its capabilities are not yet public.
🛰️ Indra Group acquires 89.7% of Hispasat for €725M
Indra Group is expanding its footprint in the space sector with a €725M acquisition of an 89.7% stake in Hispasat, including a controlling share in Hisdesat. The move strengthens Indra’s position in satellite communications, surveillance, and Earth observation as it consolidates its space operations under a new entity, Indra Space.
💵 The EIB lends €125M to SES for satellite expansion
The EIB Global has provided SES with a €125 million loan to finance three additional satellites for its O3b mPOWER system, enhancing broadband connectivity via Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites. This funding will help SES expand internet access to underserved regions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and aims to bridge the digital divide and improve access to essential services.
🚀 Arianespace to launch Galileo’s next-gen satellites
Arianespace has secured a contract to launch the first pair of second-generation Galileo satellites aboard an Ariane 6 rocket. Ariane 6 will first fly the three remaining first-generation satellites pending to complete the constellation.
